What Causes Sweating, Weakness And Tremors After Eating?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: I am healthy now but had stomach cancer in 2007. They removed 2/3 of my stomach and 9 lymph nodes. Now cancer free. I am anemic, confirmed and I believe I have hypoglycemia symptoms. Hunger even though I had eaten within two hours, dripping sweating, weakness and shakiness. I thought I was going to pass out. It has taken me about 3 hours to feel alert, I was beyond tired. Quesdtion: is it possible this can be associated with the stomach surgery-both the anemia and other symptoms. My drs don't talk about this if no cancer present. Today was disturbing.

Brief Answer:
possible Dumping syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
You may have so called dumping syndrome which may be seen later after gastric surgeries and may explain your symptoms. It can cause early or late symptoms, usually nausea, lightheadiness, shaking, sweating within 3 hours after meal. Other possibility is complication of gastrointestinal anastomosis such as stricture, stenosis. Also, functional disorders of pancreas and gallbladder may follow such surgeries.
Anemia may or may not be related. However it can be caused by malapsorption of vitamin B or iron.

I think you should discuss about these possibilities with your treating surgeon. You may also need to take supplements of vitamin b and iron. You need to do colonoscopy and gastroscopy to rule out occult bleeding.

Condition may be treated by medicine called sandostatin or in some cases surgery is required.
Changes in diet should be tried first. It includes eating smaller meals and limiting high-sugar foods.

Wish you good health.

Regards
