What Causes Severe Lower Back Pain, Constipation And Anaemia?
Question: I have severe lower back pain, constipation, anemia, and a recent test found blood in my stool. So far, the doctoctors have been unable to find a cause for my back pain or even an effective treatment. Could it all be connected and, if so, what might it be.
I am on pain meds and have a stimulator implanted for the pain but it doesn't help. I have stage 3 kidney disease and I had my gallbladder removed years ago. I also have GERD. If you have any questions before you can answer mine, just ask.

I read your question and i understand your concern. Symptoms of constipation, backache and anemia with occult stool test positive for blood are all correlated and indicates some GI source of bleeding. That is why colonoscopy has been planned. Prolonged NSAIDs use might have played a role here as these drugs are quite erosive to the GI mucosa.
As far as GERD is concerned that itself exacerbates the GI symptoms like constipation etc and a complete diet and lifestyle modifications are advised for its management.
Right now focusing on anemia with iron and folate supplements, treatment of constipation with fibers, fluids and laxatives and management of muscle pain with out NSAIDs like acetaminophen and muscle relaxants like tizanidine and skelaxin etc is advised.
Waiting and seeing till the colonoscopy reports and if negative then going for RBC labelled scan to find out the source of blood loss in GI tract should be the plan. Let your gastroenterologist take care of that. You just do as you are directed.

Overuse of NSAIDS contributed to the kidney disease. I'm not allowed any now. I've had ruptured disks and currently have so much right leg sciatica pain that now I'm on oxycodone and a fentanyl pain patch as well as the neural spine stimulator. Only recently have I begun to wonder about a connection with the other symptoms.

NSAIDs over use not only damage kidneys but also causes GI tract inflammation. RUptured disc if not responding to conservative management needs a little aggressive one like EPidural steroid injections and physiotherapy exercises. Most of the time it works.
RBC labelled scan is a radiological scan where a XXXXXXX like Technetium 99 is administered which gets attached to red blood cells and if there is any bleeding source that can be traced. It is next step if colonoscopy could not find the source of bleeding.
But with kidney disease anemia is itself a result as erythropoietin release from kidney is compromised due to failing kidney.
Just wait for the colonoscopy and consider ESI for the disc.
