What Causes Right-sided Lower Back Pain And Chest Burning Post Withdrawal From Alcohol?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: Hi,

I have been a heavy drinking for many years and I am now 39. Two weeks ago I stopped and have been having a dull ache around the lower right side of my back and also my stools have change to a bit lighter colour. I feel generally ok but also know something is there like a dull pain. Do you think I have done damage to my liver as I plan to go to see the doctor this to check but I am also worried. I have also a lower appetite now since quitting and not interested in any fatty food at all but I feel cleaner inside because of no alcohol. Is this a part of the recovery for the damage I have done, I have read it can take months before you can feel ok. I also suffer from bad heartburn sometimes and dull stomach pains on an empty stomach?

Brief Answer:
Right low back pain with chest burn and stomach pain/ Under Evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-Right low back pain with chest burn and stomach pain/ Under Evaluation

Mostly with Alcoholic Hepatitis and Alcoholic Gastritis with GERD.

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed your query facts in context to current health concerns.
Dear,Stopping for 2 weeks from extreme excess of alcohol and accompanied food fads,is not going to recover the long standing damage done to stomach/liver in your cases.
Lack of appetite lately indicates severe liver damage.Dislike for fatty food is a very bad situation as it indicates severe extent of damage to Liver with accompanied Hepatitis.
Pain on empty stomach-indicates severe gastritis from alcoholic gastritis.
pain in the low back-indicates-alcoholic hepatitis and could be due to-accompanied CholeCystitis with bile acid sludge, or could be from posterior-duodenal ulcer burrowing posterior duodenal wall.
The bad heartburn you suffer from is from-LES laxity with esophagitis with acid reflux.
Thus over all you have done lot of damage to liver and stomach and lower esophagus.

Dear,Hope this reply would alert you and educate you to take things seriously and would help you to plan further care with aid from doctors there.

Hi,

Thank you for the information today. I went to see my doctor and he checked my liver and initially he said it didn't feel enlarged but I will be having bloods and other tests tomorrow and possible Ultra Sound. I think I may have over done my symptoms as when I said loss of appetite I meant I am not eating as much as when I was drinking as used to eat at the wrong hours and crave more salty fatty food. Now I am just eating 3 meals a day. The pain has also subsided a little more this afternoon in my back.

Detailed Answer:

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your updates and admission.
I understood what You,but I still stand by ALERTS and Opinion given in My last reply. It could be shrunken cirrhotic liver, not palpable clinically.Presence of Light Coloured stools as submitted in your query, alerts you on cirrhotic obstructions with compromised LIVER with reduced fat digesting ,causing lack of appetite.
I am alerting on the EUPHORIA-with feeling clearer because of the stoppage of alcohol intake after long years, because it would be suicidal to jump back to drinking on these assumptions as perceived by you herewith in the updates too.

Do's Suggested-
Consult GI-Specialist and get fully investigated-for
Cirrhotic Grading
and Liver Function status with Fibroscan
and LIVER and kidney function tests.
Dear please -Don't underestimate the body signals and be serious to attend to it,on lines suggested above.

Next Appointment-A must for Review for further care-
Keep Me updated on completing the work up in 2-3 weeks time.

Hi Thank you for the further information.

Yes I plan to get fully checked out, I had a blood test for everything done today and also an ultrasound on Sunday. I am not able to have any other scans until I get the results back for these.

Just an update on my health today. I have my appetite back today, much more energy and the pain in my back has gone. I still plan to get this checked out fully and I am hoping it is just a scare as I don't plan to drink alcohol again after this.
