What Causes Radiating Pain In The Lower Back?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Jun 2017
Question: I get spasms that can occur on either side at any given time. It has a mind of its own. When it happens it doubles me over with unbearable pain. I have to lye down on whatever side its happening on and try to control my breathing , so I don't have an anxiety attack on top of the pain. I can be working in the garden, reaching for something, turn the wrong way or just be standing somewhere. The older I get the more unbearable it becomes. Feels like your going to die from pain. Doctors don't know, they say it may be gas. I Don't Think So. It's horrible.
I am thinking I need some kind of specialist, but I don't know what kind. I am discerned that they don't know what it is. I know it is there.

Brief Answer:
Some possible causes of pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

There is what I am thinking:
- If the pain is so unbearable, and it is radiating into the lower back and the back of the legs, it may be something related with a pinched nerve or a herniated disk.
- If it is in the medium back, in the sides, it may be from kidney spasms or even any of the urinary ways.
- If the pain is in the sides, but in the front (in the abdomen) it may be related with the gallbladder.
- You would benefit a lot from an abdominal ultasound which will give a close look to what is going on with your major organs. I see you have done one. Do you know the result?
- It can be gas, but you would hear gas noises when that pain happens, and also would have constipation or diarrhea. Do you have any of them? How is your bowel movement pattern?
- Since it is not related with the movement, it is less likely to be a muscular problem or a heart problem.

Let me know what you think about these suggestions, the information I need and any extra information you think may be relevant to me so I can advice more accurately.

Looking forward to your follow up question.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako

Thank you I will ask them to check kidney, gall bladder, and urinary next. No gas during pain. They did not do a full abdominal ultra sound to my knowledge. This has been happening off and on for years. I'm just getting older and the pain is more difficult to handle anymore.

Brief Answer:
There is always a a reason and a solution to manage the pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

You are welcomed.
I am happy to be of help.

There should be a reason for that pain, and that need to be found out.
Even if there is no reason for it, still there are medications to manage the pain. So, you don't need to handle it, the doctors need to handle it.

I hope you get well fast.
Let me know if I can help with any other question or concerns.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
