default
Posted on Tue, 9 Dec 2014
Question: Symptoms are pain in both legs and sore to touch. Since last visit I have discovered I have pinched nerve in neck and compressed stress fracture in my neck. I am also experiencing sharp pain in left side of neck and shoulder and head. Neck was frozen for almost 1 hour and.I was afraid to try and move it. Please advise. I tried 1 treatment on neck with compression but can't endure pain involved.

Brief Answer:
Medications can help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and it is unfortunate that you have severe pain limiting your movements too.

At this stage, medications such as pregabalin or gabapentin capsules would help you, as they are specific for relieving the pain or nerve origin.

In addition, application of heat pads, physiotherapy with IFT/ultrasound would also help you.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

I am not asking for medications as I have those. I am asking what do you think went on where I couldn't turn my head as it was frozen. The pain was excruciating. My thinking was I looking at more with the fracture or pinched nerve. Am I looking at paralysis if I try to suddenly try to turn my head? Please answer this question and not the medication question.

Brief Answer:
More likely to be pinched nerve.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

In my opinion, it is more likely to be pinched nerve, as it can lead to excruciating pain, especially with neck movements. This can lead to almost nil movements in the neck, so that pain is reduced. There is no fear of paralysis as it would not lead to compression of spinal cord. Only if the fracture is unstable, there is a risk of cervical cord compression leading to paralysis, which is unlikely in your case, as it is a compressed fracture.

Best wishes,
