Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having loss of sensations of taste and smell. I would like to ask you few more details.

Are you on any medications (metronidazole) ?
Are you suffering from any nose or sinus infections ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

As such, special senses related to olfaction or taste begins to decline after age 60, and a large proportion of elderly persons lose their smelling ability.

Temporary loss (taste or smell) seen seen with episodes of cold secondary to virus, sinusitis secondary to polyp or allergy. Progressive loss also seen in depression and with the treatment.

I suggest you to consult ent surgeon, give detailed history, get detailed ent examination (sinusitis, polyp). If necessary, special investigations CT or MRI. Treatment can be started as per the findings.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
