What Causes Neck Pain?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Jun 2014
Question: About 2 weeks ago I woke up with bad neck pain. It started with the bone that is between my head and neck. At first I thought I just slept the "wrong way". As the days went on the pain traveled into my ear and pretty much the whole right side of my face. I have been to on an er visit, 2 urgent care visits and one dr visit. They all say it could be a neck strain , sinusitis, or shingles. I do not have any signs of a rash. Could this be a neck strain all this time? I am worried it could be something much worse.

Brief Answer:
neck strain.NSAID, muscle relaxant.hot compression

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I went through the query and understood your concern.

Since it started with neck pain after sleep with no rashes or clinical features of cold or sinusitis, the most probable cause is neck muscle strain. You should take NSAID like aceclofenac with muscle relaxants like chlorzoxazone/ tizanidine twice daily for 3-5 days based on the responce along with hot compression. This will help you. Along with this, physiotherapy will be helpful.

If your pain does not relieve in 3 - 5 days then scanning is required to diagnose if any other problem.

I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask for any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.

Wish you good health and faster recovery.
