What Causes Miscarriage In The 7th Week Of Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: I am 31 and have had 2 miscarriages in 6 months. I get pregnant easily, The fetus has normal growth and heart beat on ultrasound at 7 weeks. At 9 weeks the fetus did not have a heartbeat and seemed to stop growing soon after. I had a D&C. Second pregnancy proceeded just like my first: Heart beat/growth on Ultrasound was normal at 7 weeks only to find no heartbeat / growth at 10 weeks. I had another D&C. I have had testing by a Reproduction Endocrinologist and all my teats were normal. Uterus is normal. They were identical pregnancies. What is happening after a 7 week gestation. Any clues, opinions, expertise, would be helpful. My doctor is no help in discussing possible causes. I do not want a 3rd miscarriage. What causes my pregnancies to be so identical. My progesterone level was 47 at beginning of pregnancies. I need help for possible causes or any ideas you can give me. Thank you for your help

Brief Answer:
Causes detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Miscarriage can occur due to various reasons and the most common cause is chromosomal abnormalities.
Other known causes include infection, abnormalities of the uterus or cervix, smoking, substance abuse, exposure to environmental or industrial toxins, diabetes, thyroid disease, and autoimmune disease.
Blood tests can identify or rule out hormonal, immunological, or chromosomal abnormalities. Examinations of the uterus by ultrasound, hysteroscopy, hysterosalpingography, and/or an endometrial biopsy may also provide important information. Histopathological examination of the expelled fetus can also help in detecting the cause. In case all these tests are normal there is no need to worry as the cause of miscarriage is difficult to detect in most of the cases.
Do not take stress. Just give some time(5 to 6 months) as the uterus also needs some time for healing as the body undergoes physical, emotional trauma.
Have a healthy nutritious diet.
Do some form of exercise as it increases blood flow to various organs.
Drink lots of water.
You can practice some relaxation techniques as Yoga, Meditation.
Restrict smoking and alcohol.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
