Brief Answer: Stop worrying, get tested. Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to HCM, I am Dr Madhuri a consultant Gynecologist and will be helping you. The discharge may occur due to many reasons. 1. The most likely cause is galactorrhea or milk secretion. It may occur when the blood levels of prolactin hormones are increased. Some women are also more sensitive to normal prolactin and an occasional discharge may come out when stimulated or squeezed. Pregnancy is the commonest cause. Certain drugs like drugs for nausea vomiting acidity etc. Thyroid problems and other hormonal disturbances also cause galactorrhea. A pituitory gland tumor also produces this. It is very rare. 2. Fibrocystic breast disease where the breast becomes lumpy and may have secretions when pressed. Just check to see if the breast is soft or has any lumps. 3.Duct problems where sometimes the duct gets blocked and secretions collect inside. Later if pressed they may come out. 4. Infection may also produce a white discharge but is associated with pain and redness. About will it affect your periods. The pressing and coming out of fluids will not affect it. Pregnancy is a common cause for this and must be ruled out. Also if prolactin is raised then it may lead to irregular periods. So I suggest that if it was a one time issue do not panic and just let it rest. Get a pregnancy test done to rule it out as it is the commonest cause. Observe if it recurs again. Do not compress the breast repeatedly as it causes more and more secretion of prolactin and aggravate the issue. If it recurs, visit a doctor and get your breast examined. Blood tests like thyroid and prolactin must be done. Further testing depends on these results. If it is simple galactorrhea drugs like bromocriptine or cabergolin will help. Do not worry. It is quiet common. Hope this satisfies your query. Thanks for using HCM. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have. Dr Madhuri Bagde Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist

Brief Answer: It may be a cause. Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome back, It may cause levels to rise sometimes. Nipple stimulation due to handling or rubbing against undergarments or clothes may also lead to an increase. However other causes also must be ruled out if there is a persistent rise. Hope this helped. I am always here to answer any further queries. Dr Madhuri

I don't have any pain ,redness or soreness and it is also normal and soft..2 months ago i got thyroid checked and it was normal..pregnancy may not be a cause at all.I know that..so, i think it may not be infection or lump or duct problems.. I have read in an article that if breasts are squeezed or sucked then sometimes it causes that discharge ..is that true..? will pcos also cause it..? but my periods are regular

Brief Answer: squeezing may sometime cause it Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome It is possible to get a discharge sometimes after squeezing the breast. However if it comes repeatedly please get blood prolactin levels estimated. Do not worry as a discharge only once is not significant. Pcos may cause it again if prolactin is the affected hormone. So please do not worry. Dr Madhuri
