Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,
I have been having issues with gas for many years. Not taken any medication yet. I have taken a executive health checkup for the same and the reports are attached. I have concerns on the VITAMIN B12 which is borderline(but I eat non veg food frequently). What is cause of such less B12 in the body? Also, in the LIVER PANEL, ALBUMIN:GLOBULIN RATIO is very low and, GLOBULIN and DIRECT BILIRUBIN is high. Is this fine or is there anything i need to be concerned about? Also, what could be the reason for this gas issues?

Brief Answer:
Low protein intake

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Lower values of Vit B12, slightly raised direct bilirubin and the deranged ratio of albumin and globulin are all effects of low albumin levels in the blood.

You may have to increase the intake of albumin in the form of egg white. This is necessary for various processes in the body few of which are vit B12 absorption, bilirubin transport etc. Correcting the albumin levels will surely correct the derangements observed.

All other test results are normal.

As far as gas is concerned, could be due to indigestion. You may have to improve the fibre content in the food. This not only reduces gas also improves protein absorption. Have food at right and fixed times all days, consume ample amount of fruits and vegetables.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
