What Causes Left Sided Pain In The Throat?
Two possible diagnoses.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your question.
I understand your concern.
What you are describing seems like post nazal drip.
What happens is that the secretions from the nose drip in the back of the throat and irritate the throat. The fact that you have cough proves that also.
One other problem that may be is a stone in the left tonsil. If you can check and see your tonsil, see if you notice a white spot there. If not then its ok. But if yes, we have a diagnosis and will need to remove it.
Let me know what you think about these 2 possible diagnoses and I will advice accordingly on how to take care of the one that you think most possible.
Looking forward to your follow up question.

Some practical advices
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up question.
These are my recommendations:
- Drink plenty of fluids... this is very important.
- Do gargles with salt to disinfect the back of the throat or use jodine sprays.
- Continue taking benadryl or if it gives you sleepiness you can also take either Cetirizine or Loratadine once/day to relieve the allergic component of the rhinitis.
- Take decongestants if they are helpful.
- If any of these is helping you completely then the last resort is using nasal spray steroids which have some side effects but are the most helpful of all.
Hope this are helpful.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.
