What Causes Itchy Circular Red Spot On Forearm?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Sep 2015
Question: I think I have pityriasis rosea. I've had this circular red spot on my forearm (behind my elbow- the "cubital fossa" apparently?) since about mid July. A few weeks after, around the same spot on my left forearm, another spot appeared. It's slightly itchy and gets itchier when I'm feeling hot/sweating, but I use Neosporin Eczema Essentials Daily Moisturizing Cream to help with the itchiness. Though, the itchiness is not my concern. My concern is why it hasn't gone away yet. I THINK the spot on the right forearm has gotten better since July and on some days, I think (unless I'm going crazy) it looks lighter than other days. It used to have a feeling of a "raised border" (herald patch?) but in the past week, it feels a bit more smooth, but the spot is still darker than the rest of my skin. Is there any way to properly treat this?

Brief Answer:
tinea corporis

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You submitted two pictures of a rash you have on your arms. This rash is definitely not pityriasis rosea. This looks more like a fungal infection. The treatment you have been using is obviously not helping. I would recommend instead get an antifungal cream like lamisil or tinactin. USe this for 1-2 weeks and see if the rash does not resolve.

This is called tinea corporis or better known as ringworm. This is not caused by any worms but by a fungal infection in the skin.

Give the antifungal a try ansd see if that resolves your problem
