What Causes Intermittent Fever And Unexplained Loss Of Weight?
Question: I have been always feeling feverish but normal body temperature on the surface for the past few months. It comes and goes everyday or every few days. I also need to pass urine very frequent, sometimes can be as bad as every 5 min. I had lost about 15kg within 2 years for no reason. I had seen specialists and had done colonoscopy, endoscopy, a neck down CT scan, PSA antigen, hormone test, blood test and urine test and all shows that I am normal. But I need to get rid of this frequent feverish feeling. What could be going on?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for getting back
I understand how difficult it should be to lose weight and not know what is going on.
I recommend you to get the following tests done to check if your intestines are absorbing the nutrients are not
1. serum iron level, serum vit b12 and folic acid
2. Check for peripheral smear of the blood
3. Fecal elastase and chymotrypsin
4. Srum IgA levels will be low in patients with malabsoption
Patients with high serum cortisol will have a feverish feeling, I recommend that you get that done as well.
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Hello,
So what specialist shall I go to? Gastrointestinal? Internal medicine?
Thank you.
Hello doctor,
I would also like to ask the followings:
1. I always see small bits of white substances in my stool. Is this a symptom of malabsorption?
2. Also, is frequent urination a symptom of malabsorption?
3. What is cause of malabsorption? Is it a serious health problem. What will be the treatment or cure?
4. What medical specialist shall I seek?
Please advise me. Thank you very much.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and good morning
I shall answer your questions one by one so that I do not miss any
1. Small bits of white substance could mean mucous, most often due to infection of the large intestine
2. Frequent urination is not a symptoms of malabsorption. It just means you are adequately hydrated if you are drinking more than 2 litres of fluids in a day. Sometimes it also means diabetes ( which you do not have)
3. Malabsorption is not a serious problem, it is sometimes due to genetic defect. Treatment is by taking multivitamins and minerals.
4. You have to see a good XXXXXXX gastroenterologist
Regards
