Question: Good Afternoon,
I am 64yrs. old, 6'4 and 202lbs. I work out 3x per week(bike and dumb bells). Blood pressure 120/65 pulse rate 55-65. No Medication of any kind. I hurt myself lifting weights about 6-monthes ago in the esophagus area. I am much better now, but have been experiencing some sort of fluttering followed by a flush sensation and a gaseous feeling. I have had an EKG-normal. My question is this normal? My doctor says the sensation I feel is gaseous.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to gastro-esophageal reflux.

I would exclude any possible cardiac causes related to this symptomatology.

Coming to this point, I would recommend consulting with attending physician and performing some tests:

- a chest x-ray study
- a fibrogastroscopy to examine for gastro-esophageal reflux
- some blood lab tests ( complete blood count, PCR, sedimentation rate, kidney and liver function tests).

Nevertheless, it doesn't seem to be anything serious.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri

I would recommend as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

As your blood lab tests and chest X ray study have resulted normal the next step would be a fibrogastroscopy to investigate for possible gastro-esophageal reflux.

In this situation an antiacid would help. Ginger 500mg could also be helpful.

Another option would be PPI like lansoprasole, pantoprasole, etc.

I would also recommend avoid smoking, alcohol intake or spicy food.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
