What Causes Fever With Chills And Loss Of Appetite?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Oct 2016
Question: I started flu-like symptoms earlier this week: low grade fever alternating with chills, overall blah feeling. No appetite or energy. Appetite slowly returning, eating small meals at usual time for 36 hours but my stools are much smaller in diameter and softer than normal. I still have that overall blah feeling and very little energy with occasional "clammy" feeling although temperature seems normal.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to urinary tract infection.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Fever with chills is often a sign of urinary tract infection (UTI). I would therefore insist you to get your urine tested for routine microscopy and culture sensitivity. Till then drink plenty of water.

Another possibility to consider is a simple viral infection but is hardly associated with chills. Malaria is associated with chills.

The diameter of stool is not a cause for concern.

Please upload the urine test reports once you get them. Based on the reports we can proceed further.

I definitely do not have a UTI .I have been (and always do) drink plenty of water. There is nothing unusual about my urine - good stream, normal volume, no burning.

Brief Answer:
A step by step approach needs to be taken.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Sorry for the inadvertent delay in replying.

It is hard to comment definitively without a thorough clinical examination. A step by step approach needs to be taken. You may start by getting the blood counts checked. You may also get your blood tested for malaria parasite. I would still insist you to get your urine tested.
