What Causes Fever Along With Throat Pain In A Child?

Question: five year old daughter has 101 fever for 2 days now. at first stated her throat hurt as well but it looked like drainage. i have treated her with childrens motrin as her head hurts with the fever and a decongestant for the drainage. her throat hasn't bothered her all day today. she now has a itchy painful rash under her left arm. please help.

Viral illness with urticaria

Detailed Answer:
HI...looks like a viral illness has precipitated urticaria in her and this happen often. Nothing to worry. It is a sort of allergy and will settle automatically. If it is too itchy you can use over the counter anti-allergics.

If not settling - You can use Hydroxyzine at 1-2mg/kg/dose every 6th to 8th hourly for 7-10 days. Most important thing to be remembered is that it has a propensity to recur (called as second crop) within 10-14 days or it may spread too. If this happens, you can start using the same medicine but I suggest you get the kid evaluated with your paediatrician.
