What Causes Fever, Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea Along With Vomiting?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: Hello! I was on here yesterday in regards to a rash that i had and still have. Anyway, about 3 am last night i began having strong pain in my stomach, diarrhea and occassional throwing up along with weakness. I am still having bathroom problems and have a low grade fever...not quite 100. I am still extremely tired and weak having extremely watery stools and some pretty bad achiness in my hands and lower back as well as my left fore and upper arm. I was feeling ok for a bit but am starting to feel worse again. My mother in law also has something similar without the achiness yesterday. I havent been sick like this in a very long time and am worrying it could mean something serious. I googled my rash along with my achey arms and fingers and came up with some more serious conditions like leukemia so now i am just worries. What are your thoughts? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
unlikely related to a serious illness

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned but this would be a less common cause of your symptoms.

The most common cause of fever, abdominal pain, aches and pain, diarrhea, vomiting and rash would be a viral infection. In this case , affecting the gastrointestinal tract.
Weakness would occur as a result of fluid loss from the diarrhea and vomiting, also reduced appetite- would cause weakness.

The fact that you were in contact with some one else with similar symptoms (even though not exact symptoms) makes it even less likely that is leukemia because that would affect a single person not more than one family member.

Treatment would involve: (1) fluid and electrolyte intake to help reduce the weakness

Oral rehydration packets or gatorade

(2)reducing solid food till there is at least a 4 hour period with no symptoms

(3)probiotics- either on their own or in yogurt

These help to shorten the course of these infections

(4)meds such as pepto bismol or lomotil would help reduce the diarrhea symptoms

Summary: (1) most commonly due to a viral infection

(2)serious conditions such as leukemia would not affect other family members

(3) fluids, resting the bowel from solid food, probiotics, meds would help

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you for your answer. I am feeling a lot better today and now my husband is sick with the same thing. I did want to follow up with a couple other concerns. I still have a rash on the posterior side of my hip which will be there 2 weeks on saturday. It has only slightly improved but pretty much looks the same to me. Not sure if youcan see pictures of it in past posts. This is where my worry about leukemia or something serious originated from? Just wanted to know what your thoughts are as i feel it should behealed by now. I have cream from dermatologist and havebeen using that. Additionally, i am continuing to have aches in my fingers and left arm... Over the past week and worry its all related to this rash or something bad. Also wanted to know if sore, slightly raised spot on my tongue is something to be worried about? Ive gotten them on and off for a couple months. Sorry for all the wuestions... Thank you!

Brief Answer:
rash would not exist on its own

Detailed Answer:
HI

Unfortunately cannot see answers or pictures from previous questions.

leukemia can be associated with a rash, mainly bruises that occur because the platelet count is low and there are breaks or bleeding in the very small blood vessels in the skin.

The rash would not occur on its own but would be associated with other persistent symptoms such as intermittent fever and night sweats, weight loss, bleeding elsewhere , weakness.
These symptoms would be long term.

A dermatologist would be able to determine if the rash appears as if it is due to bleeding in the skin and would investigated and treated appropriately

The aches and pains should improve if related to the viral illness only, if they remain when the other symptoms have resolved for more that a week then you can see your doctor.
Again without the fever, night sweats etc , unlikely leukemia

The raised spot on the tongue may be due to infection, trauma to the area, superficial ulcer.
If related to trauma or ulceration, it should heal on its own

Sorry for the location of these pictures. I dont really have intermittent fevers or at least i dont think i do. Only the sickness i just had which seems to be going through my whole family. I do have a few small bruised on my other thigh that are unexplained really. I went to hot yoga the friday before last for the first time and then jogged slowly on the treadmill the next morning and came home with this rash...it is not raised up or itchy. I either dont feel it at all or it burns when i put cream on it. I have seena dermatologist who said it was most likely a friction thing but i thought it would have gone away by now which is why the whole leukemia thing is worrying me. I dont have night sweats usually and i dont believe i have intermittent fevers...just a few bruises and this rash. What are your thoughts on this? Sorry for being so worried! Just think its strange that its red skin and that it its only on one side and wont go away.

Brief Answer:
may need review

Detailed Answer:
HI

I do not believe, since there are no other symptoms related to leukemia, that your symptoms point in that direction at all.
Having seen adults and children with leukemia, they are very unwell.

If the rash is related to friction then it should resolve once there is no continued friction or irritation to area. If there are any repeated instances of friction then the rash would continue.

In some persons if an area of skin is inflamed, a secondary bacterial or fungal infection can be introduced that may need treatment.

It may be best to see your doctor for review since the rash has not resolved.
