What Causes Chills And Fever Post A Cat Scratch?

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Apr 2017
Question: I have been diagnosed with cat scratch fever. One of the symptoms that are missing is the skin legions. Do skin legions alway appear with cat scratch fever? Also it was a good 4 to 5 weeks since I was scratched before I started to get sick. First symptom noted. Jaw muscles a little sore. Then I got the chills. Jaw muscle OK now but muscles in general are sore if I use them a bit. I especially notice this in my leg muscles. Is this normal for cat scratch fever?
Thank You

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Catscratch fever is due to the bacteria Bartonella introduced into the body by a cat's bite or scratch. Usually the fever and chills begin in 2 or 3 weeks. There is usually a blister at the site of bite or scratch and the lymph nodes draining that area become inflamed and large. There can be muscle pains, head ache and fatigue.
Please let me know how the diagnosis was made and I would like to see the results of any blood test.
Cat scratch fever usually resolves in a few days and there are usually no complications in a person with normal immunity.
