Posted on Wed, 19 Aug 2015
Question: Hi Doc. I am 45 years old in September. I have had severe burning sensation in the upper right sided of stomach for almost a year now. I did an endoscopy and was diagnosed as having gastric erosion. On the recommendation of doctors, I have taken all sorts of PPI, repeated several doses of amoxycillin, clarithromycin and rabeprazole and antacids to no avail. In the past one month, the pain has increase severely and has become almost permanent. It goes up to my back and I am so uncomfortable. It is beginning to affect me psychologically because I have done 3 endoscopies and seen two gastroenterologist without a visible sign of improvement. I need a solution. What do you advise.

Please provide more details and consider these guidelines

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I had gone through your question very diligently and I can understand your concern.

Gastric erosion can be manged with life style modifications and dietary changes, along with medications
Here i would like further information for better assessment of the condition.
Have the sample for biopsy taken during endoscopy ?if yes than upload me the reports
Do you smoke or consume liquor
Are you taking medicines regularly as your advised?
How's your appetite
Are you having symptoms of acid reflux like regurgitation of food contents in mouth , Vomiting?

I would advise you for an X ray chest standing to rule out hiatus hernia and serological tests for H Pylori.

Meanwhile please follow these guidelines
You can add sucralfate syrup 20 ml thrice a day which facilitates healing
Avoid spicy fried fatty a d junk food or carbonated drinks.
Say no to smoking and alcohol
Have small and frequent meals consisting of lots of fess fruits and vegetables
Have lots of fluids like plain water and lemon water

Please write back to me with all these details so that I will be able to tell you more precisely
wishing you good health
Regards

Thank you doc for your response.

No biopsy was taken during the endoscopy. However, one of the endoscopy results do reveal that I have "mild hiatus hernia" and "bile reflux" although I do not vomit.

I do not smoke or take alcohol. I was tested for H Pylori last week. I was not given the result but the doctor said it is weakly present in my system. I recalled I had treated treated H Pylori once and gotten rid of it. As such, the present test result may just show a recurrence.

I take my drugs regularly as prescribed by the doctors and my appetite is very good.

Presently I am on Elicorid ( a combination of clarithromycin, rabeprazole and Amoxilicin) prescribed for by my doctor. I have been asked to take if for two weeks instead of the usual 1 week.

I have started implementing your advise and look forward to your assistance in tackling this problem.

Once again, thank you.
