Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Neuropathy refers to abnormal sensations due to abnormal structure or function of nerves in the area. The sensations can vary to include the following: burning,
tingling, sticking, numbness, pinching etc.
Neuropathy can be central (related to the brain or
spinal cord) or peripheral (related to nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord).
It is temporary in most cases and lasts a few days up to a week, though in some cases it can last slightly longer.
In some persons the change can be permanent.
There are different possible causes such as : (1)
vitamin deficiency particularly
vitamin b12 and folate
(2)trauma
(3)infections
(4)diabetes
(5)exposure to toxins
(6)
thyroid disease can sometimes cause this problem
(7)neurological diseases such as stroke and ms
(8)liver or kidney disease due to electrolyte and metabolic disturbance
(9)idiopathic- this means that the cause is not found on examination and with investigations
The burning sensation may only last a few days, you can try to use anti inflammatory medication to help to reduce it. There are some medications that are normally used in neuropathy if it continues.
If the sensation continues beyond a week, worsens or is associated with other neurological symptoms (
blurred vision,
headaches, weakness, difficulty speaking, seizures) then you need to see your doctor.
