What Causes Burning And Itching Sensation On Inner Thighs?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 May 2015
Question: I have been experiencing what feels like a yeast or fungal infection on my inner thighs however no over the counter creams have been helping. It does not look like the typical jock itch or ringworm and itches and burns when I scratch it and my skin bubbles up with hives. It has been like this for 3 weeks and I know have it under my armpits and on my right hip. I have not gone outdoors much or exposed that area to anything. I do have eczema on my inner elbow but this itch and rash do not look anything like my current eczema.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to dermatitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
From the attached pictures the most possible causes in my opinion are-
1. Erythema multiforme.
2. Dermatitis- due to skin infection, allergy,etc.
3. Dry skin- Xerosis.
4. Heat rash.
A direct examination by a dermatologist is the best way to get it diagnosed.
Most simple rashes improve with gentle skin care and avoiding irritating substances. You can help the improvement by
* Avoid scrubbing your skin.
* Use as little soap as possible. Use gentle cleansers instead.
* Avoid applying cosmetic lotions or ointments directly on the rash.
* Use warm (not hot) water for cleaning. XXXXXXX dry, don't rub.
* Eliminate any newly added cosmetics or lotions.
* Leave the affected area exposed to the air as much as possible.
* Try calamine medicated lotion.
* Hydrocortisone cream (1%) is available without a prescription and may soothe many rashes.
The rashes usually take 5-7 days to disappear.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you for your answer, however this has been an ongoing severe itching for almost 4 weeks now. I have taken benadryl for over a week and it has gotten worse. It feels worse than the picture look and if I start scratching it huge hives and blisters appear. I've been using Cetaphil instead of soap and that doesn't seem to help. I have an appointment with my primary care physician, do you think they can prescribe me something stronger than over the counter creams and home remedies? Thank you.
