Brief Answer:
Could be acute pharyngitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to health care magic,

After going through your query, it seems that you are suffering from Acute Pharyngitis which is a sudden onset of inflammation of the throat characterized by sore throat, congestion of the mucosa, with or without fever, etc.

During acute stages there will be congestion of the throat mucosa due to which pooling of blood happens in the engorged blood vessels.

During the clearing of the throat, the engorged tiny blood vessels rupture giving rise to blood tinged saliva.

However,it can be treated with appropriate intervention.

My advice to you is:

1. To drink plenty of warm water which keeps the mucosa moist and hydrated and will also reduce the congestion.

2. Use povidone iodine throat gargles (1:1 dilution) 3-4 times a day after food. Povidone iodine is a good locally acting antibiotic.

3. Try taking an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or anti-pyretic like paracetamol which are available over the counter.

4. Avoid any antihistamine medicines.

5. Avoid coffee, hot/chilled food and beverages.

With this measures you will start improving in 3 to 4 days and in case not, then I would you to see ENT specialist for complete medical history and thoroughly ENT examination.

Your doctor may order some routine blood works with examination of pharynx.

Hope this will help you. I will be available for the follow-up queries.

I have been spitting blood in the mornings for almost 2 weeks now. Is it normal? Did you view the images I attached. It happens only in the mornings. What should I eat? How soon can I recover?

Brief Answer:
Yes,i saw all three images.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow-up.

If there is spitting of blood with sore throat, fever then the first possibility which i suspect would be acute pharyngitis and you should start treatment what i suggested.

The reason could be excess congestion in throat during the night time lead to spitting of blood in morning when you try to clear your throat in morning.

You can have a normal diet but avoid could water and other cold items like ice-cream etc.

You can go for some routine blood works like CBC,ESR to rule out chances of infection.

With above treatment you will start improving in 3 to 4 days.

If any doubt then feel free to ask me.
