What Causes A Pus Filled Abscess On The Right Side Of The Jaw?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Apr 2016
Question: I have a possible abscess on the right side of my jaw, under my ear. Sometimes there is mild drainage but most of the time the swelling is mild. For two days now the swelling has been painful and has not receded. I have good oral hygiene and I try to watch my sugar levels, but this had been an on and off situation for a few years. I need to know if there's anything I can do and if I am in further risk of anything aside from an infection.

Brief Answer:
Cyst formed into a sinus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
As per the history you have provided , this looks to be an infected sebaceous cyst forming a sinus, whenever the opening is closed it will enlarge in size and reduce the size once drained out.

The treatment is always surgical as the cyst /sinus wall has to be removed in-toto (total) and sent for biopsy too.
This is usually a benign condition and easily manageable needing a small incision.

Another rare possibility of a sinus developing out of lymph node has to be remembered. Please consult your Doctor to get a proper referral and get the thing operated and cured.

I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask for further relevant query if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
