What Are The Symptoms Of Toxic Shock Syndrome?
Question: Hi,
I left a tampon in for 36 hours and am not feeling well today. I pulled it out around 2:00 last night. My symptoms are mild and I do not have a fever. I am a teacher and have been around the flu and strep recently which may be the cause of some of my symptoms. I also have a head cold. My question is about toxic shock syndrome. Can you have that without a fever? I am wondering if I should go into the doctor or wait to see if my symptoms get better/worse?

Fever(typically abrupt onset) is a characteristic feature of toxic shock syndrome(TSS).
TSS may present without fever very rarely.
As you don't have any recent onset fever and other serious symptoms of TSS like profuse diarrhea,severe abdominal pain,vomiting etc,toxic shock syndrome can be ruled out at present and there is no need for a doctor's visit right away.
What are your mild symptoms other than the head cold ?
You can safely wait to see whether your symptoms tend to improve or worsen.Seek emergency medical care if condition worsens.

I feel nauseous or waves of nauea and my stomach feels like it's in a knot. I haven't been able to eat much today. I also had a headache that was cured with some Excedrin. I also have a sore throat (could be due to my cold or could be the start of strep). I teach first grade and have been around a lot of sickness lately.

Nausea,abdominal discomfort,loss of appetite could relate to your anxiety of developing this serious issue(TSS) with tampon use or gastritis .You can also take a course of combination drug called Razo-D(rabeprazole 20mg and domperidone 10mg) for alleviating symptoms after discussing with your doctor.
Sore throat likely to be common cold related(probably viral cause)..If sore throat persists more than 3 days or gets worse like fever,increased pain etc,get evaluated for strep..
Until you can follow these..
1)Do gargling with normal saline 3 to 4 times a day
2)Steam inhalation if you have congested nose
3)Tablet levocetirizine 10mg twice for 3 days(note can cause drowsiness).
