Question: What are the best nutrients and vitamins I can use every morning to get my brain awake? I am not a morning person but need to be sharp and alert for complex work issues everyday. Thank you.

There are no specific added benefits of staying alert/awake in the morning that are related to any multivitamin product use or for that matter any specific nutrient. Taking any drug/ medication to stay awake is risky especially if you are driving to your daily work. Modafinil is an option that is prescribed sometimes for staying awake. However this must be prescribed by your physician and should not be taken without a thorough history and physical exam by your doctor. Depressive disorder should be ruled out via a XXXXXXX mental state exam by your psychiatrist as lethargy, lack of energy and somnolence at daytime can present as depression.

I'm sorry but I was looking for specific nutritional advice. Such as what are daily protein requirements, vitamin B12, Omegas, etc. I am not always focused at work and it feels like I might be missing something for brain power besides sleep or breakfast.

Both have had encouraging results as far as cognitive improvement , memory enhancement and overall improvement of brain circulation are concerned. You may discuss both of these options with your doctor. Vitamin supplementation should be done if there is a documented deficiency or clinical evidence of deficiency.

I would like to add just one point from experience. In addition to such supplements which have shown benefit , Daily Exercise is the corner stone of health in my view. Unless you exercise daily or involve yourself in some sort of active sports daily, the body can itself cope with the external and internal stressors up to the age of 35 at most. Then , its bound to decline in one way or the other. By exercising daily you can greatly halt or even reverse this decline to some extent and maintain a healthy body with a healthy mind.
