Vaginal Culture Showed Light Klebsiella Pneumoniae. Having Yellowish Discharge. Suggestions

Question: vaginal culture showed light klebsiella pneumoniae. Been on two rounds of keflex. Keeps coming back. Only symptom is yellowish discharge. Suggestions?? My doc said that once it's colonized, you can't get rid of it except perhaps with high volume probiotics

Brief Answer: DETAILED BELOW Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for writing to us with your health concern. Klebsiella is one organism that is notorious for being resistant to antibiotics. Was Keflex the antibiotic of choice based on the reports ? At times, higher antibiotics ( for eg. Aztreonam or Imipenem ) maybe required for recalcitrant infections. Also, get your blood sugars tested for diabetes, since you are having recurrent infections. Meanwhile, try and up your intake of probiotics in your diet. Have lots of curd and yoghurt, and oral lactobacillus spores. Do NOT clean , rub, douche or handle the area excessively. Make sure you are not getting it repeatedly from a male partner who harbours it in his genital tract, it is often a commensal ( normal flora ) there. Change underpants frequently in the day, and dust them with Neosporin powder to avoid dampness. All the best. Please feel free to discuss further.

Keflex was the drug. Now my doc put in a scrip for cipro. My blood sugar is fine can you recommend a strong source of probiotics?
