Suggest Ways To Rule Out Prostate Cancer

Question: I had a psa of 5.2 in June- last Nov it was 5.3

I had very mild sensation after urinating in the night - sometimes twinges of mild pain
Dr thought I had prostatitis so took Cipro. Nothing changed. That is when I got the psa test of 5.2. The doctor suggests I get the biopsy done.

I have heard there are places with special imaging techniques that can see tiny tumours for the biopsy. Should I try to get one of those?

My brother had prostate cancer - and so did an uncle. I have been above 4 for about 3 or 4 years. What would you think the chances I have cancer are and likely prognosis.

thanks

thanks again XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Better get Prostate Biopsy done

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
Your PSA done very recently is reported to be 5.2 .

PSA is a important screening test and guide line to take a decision about doing Prostate Biopsy to confirm or to rule out the diagnosis of cancer of Prostate .

Though there are newer imaging techniques available they help us to diagnose in staging the disease where diagnosis of Cancer of Prostate is already established by Biopsy .

It is a international protocol which states that PSA above normal value of 4 should be suspected to be due to Cancer of Prostate unless proved otherwise by Prostate Biopsy .

In view of you having history of cancer of Prostate in your family I would suggest you to get the Prostate Biopsy done without relying upon the findings of Digital Rectal Examination (DRE )

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
