Suggest Treatment For White Coating On Tongue And Mucus Stuck Inside Throat

Question: I am a 29 year old male having issues for the last 5 years. Basically I had an interesting lifestyle between 19-23 years. Now I have acid reflex issues and my endoscopic result show the following.

1. Mild Distal Reflux Oesophagitis
2. Barrett's Oesophagus
3. Mild Antral Chronic Gastritis
4. Lactose intolerant
5. Lax Lex

My symptoms are

1. Near constant mucus in back of throat which I can keep hacking and spitting out. This is more severe when I eat or exercise or when I getting nervous/anxious.

2. White coating on tongue which builds up throughout the day and I have difficulty speaking because of mucus stuck at the back

I don't have any major heart burn issues which make me think I have silent reflux (LPR). Because of the mucus I also had huge numbers of tonsil stones come out everyday and bad breath. I had a tonsillectomy about 5 months ago and most of my the above symptoms are down by 50%.

And the weird part is when I brush my teeth thoroughly and scrub my tongue of the white coating I feel so so much better. And when I don't brush my teeth for long I start having anxiety related symptoms which immediately decrease after I scrub my tongue and hack out the mucus. At work I go to the toilet every hour to wash my tongue of the white coating using water and spit out the mucus.

I am at my wits end because of this and have become so conscious of talking in front of people because the mucus at the back of my throat prevents me from talking. Its kinda gradually destroying my life.

I have myself tested for quite a few allergies which all came back negative. I don't even know which specialist to go to. Please help. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
GERD/ Acid reflux, reason for all the symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking!

i read your question and i understand your concern. You will be amazed to know that all your symptoms including the stuck in the throat mucus are due to acid reflux. Sore throat, tonsillitis, mucus in the throat sensations, recurrent sinuses infections, air way irritations and pneumonia are some of the common sequelae when acid refluxes to the esophagus and leads to such symptoms.

Your GERD sounds like a severe one as not responding to medications for four years already eld you to metaplastic change of Barrett's esophagus. I want you to seek a gastrointestinal surgeons and let them do a fundoplication for you to prevent this reflux before ti gives you adenocarcinoma of esophagus .

I would hope you modify diet and lifestyles needed to prevent conservatively the acid reflux . Let me repeat them for you in case you dont know.

Losing weight (if overweight)
Avoiding alcohol, chocolate, citrus juice, and tomato-based products
Avoiding peppermint, coffee, and possibly the onion family
Eating small, frequent meals rather than large meals
Waiting 3 hours after a meal to lie down
Refraining from ingesting food (except liquids) within 3 hours of bedtime
Elevating the head of the bed 8 inches
Avoiding bending or stooping positions

nutshell, Acid reflux is pandora's box, rest every thing else is a just a collateral damage. Nip the evil in the bud and discuss fundoplication options for the relief or these symptoms you are worried about will keep coming and more worrisome issues like adenocarcinoma of the lower esophagus are eventually to follow as you are halfway there with XXXXXXX metaplasia. Remedy it or it will get irreversible.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
