Suggest Treatment For Vertigo Spells

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: I have been constipated for about three months. Take a stool softener and still constipated. I am male and as of two weeks or so ago, have had vertigo when I lay down, the room spins, when I am standing for a bit, seems to clear almost to 100%. I was stung by a yellow jacket the day before I started getting the dizzy spells. Still about the same dizzyness and isn't getting better. Local clinic checked blood and all ok there cept for a bit high on colesteroil.

Brief Answer:
positional vertigo.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.
In my opinion , you have positional vertigo.
This is an age related disease of the inner ear, where in there is vertigo spells on lying down or on change in head position.
If I were your treating doctor, I would have prescribed labyrinthine sedatives like cinnarizine 25 mg bd for 15 days+ betahistine 16 mg bd for 15 days.
Avoid sudden head movement, and lying down on the side which causes vertigo.
Epleys rehabilitation manouvre is necessary , as it may help you overcome dizziness.
All these are prescription medicines, and epleys manouvre needs specialist guidance.
So I advise you to consult ent specialist, and discuss my views with him.
Hope my answers have helped you . Thanks.

Apart from aging, other causes are infection, trauma , head injury, etc.
This conditions is not related to constipation or usage of stool softeners.
