Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

The submandibular glands are a pair of salivary glands under the mandible and therefore the name. The glands generate saliva which travels through a duct to its opening under the tongue in the mouth.

I suppose you have got something to ask regarding conditions related to the submandibular glands.

I have had one swollen on the right side for 9 months it has not change it size
doctor
Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Its more likely a benign finding like chronic infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

A swollen gland for over 9 months and without observable change might indicate a chronic infection. If there is recent pain and discomfort then please consult a surgeon and get an ultrasound scan done. A small swelling in the region for 9 months is always a benign condition

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
It is most likely a submandibular lymph node swelling

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

It it is the size of a peanut then most likely you have got an enlarged submandibular lymph node swelling. These can occur in chronic head and neck infections and can persist over time. At 23 years of age cancer is unlikely to happen in you. It is important to know if you have any symptoms relating to your mouth region, any infections or similar problems.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Lymphoma will have additional symptoms like fever, weight loss, more lumps

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

The possibility of cancer might be included only if you have symptoms like fever, weight loss and similar swellings elsewhere. Having worked in a cancer hospital, I feel cancer will be the last diagnosis on my mind if you do not have any of the above additional symptoms. Please do not worry.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
