Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: Hi.
I have supraclavicular area swelling on both sides but more on the right side. Its soft with no determined edges. Got the flu shot a week ago. Still got influenza a few days later which I got from my kid that caught it at school. Got treated with Tamiflu and alright now. I'm worried about the swelling. What could be the cause. What kind of specialist should I visit. Thank You.

Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/37 - swelling supraclavicular right more than left - soft - no determinate edges - flu shot a week ago - still got influenza a few days later from kid - tamiflu - alright now - wants to know the cause of swelling and which specialist to visit...
The commonest cause of such a swelling in both the supraclavicular region are:
Accumulation of fat.
Lymph node swellings.
Due to general causes such as hypothyroidism.

The best consultant would be either a General Surgeon or an ENT one.
High resolution ultrasound and FNAC if there is any definite lump are most diagnostic - CT scan or an MRI gives still better resolution and which one to be done depends upon the choice of your consultant.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Uploaded a picture so you can see it and give your opinion. Today it began to hurt a little bit on the right side. Im worried about a serious condition. What blood test would you recommend to discard any serious condition? Thank you Doctor.
