Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Sinus Headache

Posted on Wed, 10 May 2017
Question: Hey there I am looking on what I can do next for home care or ask my GP from the following:

- 5 weeks ago I got very tired and weak

- 4 weeks ago I had flu like symptoms and sore throat and sinus headaches prescribed penicillin (did not work)

- 3 weeks ago I had full blood test and X Ray for chest and came back markers inflammation and small shadow on chest and rattling NO COUGH ever or congestion - shivers and weak

- 2 weeks ago I had more breathlessness and flu like symtoms and bad shivers and fever - sinus pain and throat pain and still getting more worse

- 1 week ago I was given doxycycline 100mg per day and this did not help and breathless, shivers and very weak, sore throat no congestion, swollen left gland and general exhaustion

Last night GP sent me to ER and I was there they gave me another blood test and chest XRay and tested lung for clot.

Results were higher infection still shown, maybe bacterial and viral too. Also chest was clear and lung. They sent me home and told me to continue with tablets and maybe I will need further treatment if no improvement. They said I have bacterial and viral and they not sure where but UPPER.

I am worried as today I take doxycycline and still feel no gain, still got ear and throat pain and very shivery and weak. What do I do next?

Regards

Brief Answer:
Please see the detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! I have been through your question.

Please first I need to see an attached picture of your tests result.
As well I need to know about your sexual history and can you specify better the location of this swollen gland (neck or) ?
Shivering you mean with fever or not?

Furthermore related your concern I think that you should exclude mononucleosis (EBV IgM,IgG), if you have fever should take blood culture and to do a physical examination by an ENT specialist.
But as well I suggest to speak with your doctor to take in consideration the side effects of citalopram ( to stop or to change the dose).

I hope my answer helps you.
I wish you a quick recovery.
Regards.

Hello,

I can get a copy of results from doctor tomorrow? I need to request and then scan

My sexual history is clean, I have not had un protective sex ever

I have either sore red throat and left ear and under left jaw, or none (depends what I wake up to) the white small spots left a few weeks ago. I get pain in sinuses and small headaches and face and blocked nose and pain but no phelpm.

I have no cough or phlepm and ER says chest and lung is clear but infection is obvious in blood.

Fever is either cold sweats and shiver upper back no fever or sweating and no more than 37.5

I had citaolpram for 3 years and never had issue?

Brief Answer:
follow-up consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thank you for writing back,

I asked you related the sexual history to exclude any possibility of sexually transmitted infection.
So, in your case I think is not necessary.

According to the pain of sinuses and headache, I'd suggest to do X-ray of sinuses or scan CT-scan of the head.

Furthermore, I am waiting to see your tests results to define the diagnosis better.

I hope my answer helps you.
I wish you a quick recovery.

Regards.
