Suggest Treatment For Red Raised Skin Patch On Labia Majora

Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: Hi I noticed a red raised patch of skin on my labia majora a day or two after sex with my boyfriend... At first I thought it was a cyst of some kind but it's not hard, or even some hormonal bump or foliculitis... But I'm really concerned that it may be genital herpes. It hasn't formed blisters at this point and it's been a few days but the patch is about the size of a fingertip. I have an appointment with my dr set up but I am worrying like crazy!! Please help

Brief Answer:
Irritant raction seems most probable

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear Madam

Welcome to this portal with your query.

I am Dr V XXXXXXX and I am a Sr Dermato-venereologist. I will guide you about the problem at hand.

The pictures are consistent with an allergic response to some substance which might be a chemical or a disinfectant.
Given the limitations of absence of a direct examination, there does not appear to be any visual signs of Herpes.

If you are having a itching then Zyrtec or another antiallergic would be a safe choice. You might also consider applying an antibacterial cream like Mupirocin.

As your apptt is fixed ina day or so, using anything else might suppress the original lesions and interfere with the diagnosis. If the lesions resembling Herpes do not emerge, it should settle soon. Had it been herpes, by now the watery lesions or ulcers would have come up. Pl keep on sponging the area with plain water and avoid soaps or disinfectants.

Please contact if you need further guidance.
I would be glad to offer any help.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Ring worm can be confirmed by simple testing

Detailed Answer:
Hi Madam

Welcome back.
Noted your fresh information.

Ringworm can be easily detected by scrapings test which is painless, not time consuming, and reports can be had the same day.

If one feels like going on without such a test, it would be safe to use Miconazole cream without any adverse effects.

Sometimes, irritant reactions too show peeling which might be confused with ring worm infection.
Uploading fresh pics might help me arriving closer to the current situation.

I am glad that it is getting better.
Best wishes.
