Question:
The patient presented complaining of a swollen and painful eye (right eye only), sinus pain around the nose and facial pain. He had facial pain the prior evening. The swelling of the eye had occurred overnight. He was seen at 7 am the next day. I will forward a photo showing his condition. Can this be caused by conjuncticitis?

Brief Answer:
It may be orbital cellulitis. Please upload the photo for further review.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HealthcareMagic,
I read your question carefully and I can understand your concern.

What you are describing may not just be conjunctivitis, because conjunctivitis is just the inflammation of the conjunctiva and not of the surrounding tissues.

It seems more like cellulitis of the orbital muscle which surrounds the eye.

I can confirm that the moment after reviewing photo. To upload an image, simply click on the link to upload a file and follow the instructions. If this proves difficult, please send the image by mail to YYYY@YYYY and request that the image should be uploaded to your query.

I guess the antibiotics you are using are not just drops but oral antibiotics, because that is what is needed for the orbital cellulitis(most likely).

Looking forward to seeing the photo and to your follow up question.

Brief Answer:
I confirm that it is orbital cellulitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the photo.

Yes, it is orbital cellulitis.
The patient needs to be hospitalized in order to be treated because he will need to take IV antibiotics and be monitored closely. So if you are the patient I would recommend to go to the ER as soon as possible and be seen from an ophthalmologist.

Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
