Question: Hi,

I am a 58 year old female. I have been having a low white blood cell count for the past few years.
I just had lab work and wbc count was 2.5. I do not feel sick. I have sleep apnea and get up at 4:00
am for work. Rarely get 8 hours sleep. What could this low wbc count mean?

Brief Answer:
Hi can you send me your recent 2-3 complete blood reports

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam,
I did review your concern
Low white cell counts(less than 4k) for more than 2-3 occasions is certainly a reason for further investigation. It can be because of medications, infections, bone marrow pathology, inflammatory disorders and vast majority of causes.
To understand your problem in a better way i need to look at your complete blood report (recent 2-3 reports) to see the trend and also other parameters in blood like hemoglobin, MCV, platelet count and so on.
Also please let me know if you are chronically on any medications, if you have experienced any abdominal fullness or pain or any swelling in other parts of body.
Sleep apnea and less sleep can adversely affect blood counts but i can comment better only after seeing the reports. If you cannot upload send it to YYYY@YYYY with Sub: ATTN 'Dr Parth XXXXXXX Desai'.
Awaiting your reply with reports.
wish you all the best.
sincerely
Dr Parth Desai.
