Brief Answer:
primary hypothyroidism.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, hi and welcome to HCM.

I have gone through your query and the attached report,

your father has primary hypothyroidism, he needs to be treated, though at the age of 70 , the treatment will not be very aggressive. let us begin with thyroxine 50 mcg once a day , empty stomach, early morning. See if your treating doctor shares my opinion.
there is no confusion in the report, so repeating the test will not add anything to our existing plan.
thyroid profile can be done anytime of the day, and any fed state.
review after 6 - 8 weeks with TSH and FT4.

Please feel free to discuss further
regards!

Thanks for your feedback.
As per as the report T3 and T4 are normal but only TSH what does this Signifies usually if TSH high t3 or t4 will also be high right or these are not at all related to each other.
My father is not having any symptoms of Thyroid.
He is having slight pain in legs early in the morning this would go once he goes for walking but if he does not go for walking pain would increase does TSH result will haa anything to do with leg pain or it is nerve weekness?

What are the symptoms that person would see if TSH is high during primary hypothyroidism?

Brief Answer:
thyroid dysfunction is present as per the report.

Detailed Answer:
Dear ma'm, hi! TSH and t3 , t4 are inversely related. when t3 t4 start going low, body starts increasing TSH. for some initial phase, high TSH tries to compensate by making thyroid gland produce more t3 and t4, so initially t3 and t4 appear normal and tsh alone is high. when this compensation fails, t3 t4 will go low and tsh will go further high.
now sorry but when i answered your query, you had posted the same query again, with a different report from a different lab. Now two different reports are confusing you. one has TSH 6 which for your father's age is normal and acceptable , whereas this report of thyrocare has tsh 15 which is high and needs treatment.
but officially i was not allowed to take both of your queries as we believe that user is looking for second opinion. but the opinions will vary as one report is different from the other.
leg pain can be due to hypothyroidism and can be age related.
other symptoms to look for - constipation, over sleepy, loss of appetite, weight gain , depression , hair fall.
regards!

Thankyou very much for explaining the corelation between T3,T4 and TSH really its very helpfull in understanding the Thyriod function.
The report which i attached was having 6 was for my sister which i posted in different thread. My father is having TSH value 15 which i had mentioned in this thread.
So in case if TSH is 15 do we need to start medication immediately?
Since My father is having BP just wanted to confirm that Tablets mentioned by you would not have any impact if yes what precaution do we need to take

Brief Answer:
please start the treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Dear ma'm, sorry for mistakenly considering both the queries for your father.
yes your father needs to be on treatment. hypothyroidism is rather known to cause high bp, so controlling thyroid becomes all the more important.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. One more quesion i was having that If TSH is high for the first time.
Do we need to do Free T3 and Total T3 Test in order to confirm the TSH values are accurate does this helps to evaluate thyroid gland function.
So does it make sense to have Free T3 and Total T3 Test before starting medication in order to access the current TSH state.
If My Father need to undergo Free T3 and Total T3 Test whether it can be done at any time i.e before/after fastening.
Since my father is taking B.P tablet Eritel LN 40Mg does this tablet interfere with the Test i.e Do we need to avoid table before undergoing this test.
