Question: I received some blood work back and need some directions to take? Our local hospital offers a blood work for women so I went to do it on Monday. My results were very alarming. My triglyvhride were 604. My cholesterol was 244. My HDL was 6.4.My non-HDL (Calc) was 206. My TSH, 3rd generation is 1.34. My glucose was 100. Everything I have read online is saying something could be going on with my thyroid. For the past 6 months I have started gaining weight and felt tired. I even went the eye doctor for XXXXXXX eyes. So they started me on restasis. I started feeling bloated more throughout my face and my waist line. I have gain 10 pounds in 3 months. My blood pressure has been slightly higher for the first time ever. A increase of constipation. I have never been the type to gain weight so it was very alarming is why I went to receive blood work. I have always worn size 8 maybe 10 but with the increase in my waist I could wear a 12.

Brief Answer:
Metabolic Syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
The combination of high triglycerides, Weight gain, high blood pressure is consistent with a diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome. Your TSH is well with in normal limit. Do you have a Free T4 ( FT4) report??

I would like to ask few questions.
1) How are your periods?
2) Current weight and height ?
3) Alcohol/smoking?
4) Exercise pattern
5) Any family history of heart disease or stroke before the age of 60 years?
6) Are you on any medications?

It would be great if you could reply

Regards
Binu

I typed a large paragraph but it seem to disappear. I am not a smoking but I do have social drinks on the weekend. Maybe two beers. I do not have heart disease in my family. My periods are one day due to have an oblation. My cholesterol has always been high around 300 and my bad cholesterol is normally high with my good cholesterol being low. This report is totally different. My cholesterol has dropped to 244 and it appears my good cholesterol is high this time. I applied for life insurance this summer and they did blood work and my trigercerides were fine but my cholesterol was around 300. Just recently they had made comments that my blood pressure has been elevated but I am
Not on any medicine. With my thyroid level is that closer to hyper or hypo. I am 5 6 normally around 155 n but now I am 170. But I feel bloated more than fat. Can I try something over the counter for should I seek a physican. And if a physician which type or which kind of specialist? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Over the counter Omega-3 capsules

Detailed Answer:
Thank you.
The recent weight gain could have contributed to high triglycerides. If you had taken been close to your blood test, even that can cause high triglycerides.

Your TSH value is neither hyper nor hypo, but totally normal.( you had typed the value as 1.34).

You will need medicines for high triglycerides as well as high blood pressure. The only medicine I can advice you to buy over the counter is Omega-3 capsules ( fish oil). They are good in reducing triglycerides.

You need to see a physician who can prescribe you a pill for high blood pressure and triglycerides.

Let me stress again that your TSH is completely normal and you do not need any treatment. But I wish if you had done one additional test for Thyroid, which is Free T4.

Binu

Since my glucose has never been high does that effect whether it could be metabolic syndrome. Which specialist should I go see. I was thinking endocrinogolist. Think I misspelled it. Does high triglyceride cause weight gain or bloating?

Brief Answer:
Blood sugar may not be always high initially

Detailed Answer:
Your blood sugar need not be always high in Metabolic syndrome. However, in most of these cases, they eventually develop diabetes if left untreated. You may see an endocrinologist if they are easily accesible. If not, you may see a General Medicine specialist ( Physician)
