Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation On Penis Head When Suffering From Chlamydia

Posted on Fri, 27 Feb 2015
Question: Doctor,

Here is a background on what happened and my current situation. So back at the end of September I went to the Doctor and was diagnosed with Chlamydia and was put on Doxycycline 2 pills a day for a week. The symptoms did not seem to clear up at all and did a urine test and came back negative for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia this was back in November. The symptoms decreased a little bit but were still there in the beginning of January so my doctor prescribed me another dose of Doxycycline for a week which I got done taking last week symptoms seemed to decrease even more but now I'm still left with a slight burning sensation on the outside of my penis head below my urethra (this could be due to anxiety) but also inside my urethra seems to be wet all the time when I open it up it has clear sticky liquid lining the urethra walls is this normal? In the mornings when I wake up I can milk some of the liquid out and no it is not pre cum either. At this point my Dr. referred me to a urologist but I can't see him until 02/24/2015 I guess I'm just trying to get some peace of mind until that date.

Thanks for your query at HCM
I understand your concern and situation.

There is no cause to worry. The rate of chlamydia infection is highest in your age group which is most common sexually transmitted diseases. It spreads because it often causes no symptoms and may be unknowingly passed to sexual partners. Usually symptoms are clear or cloudy discharge from the tip of the penis, difficullty in urination, burning and itching around the opening of the penis or pain and swelling around the testicles. You will require prescribe oral antibiotics, usually azithromycin or doxycycline which you have already taken. I recommend your partner(s) be treated to prevent reinfection and further spread of the disease. You must be re-tested to be sure the infection is cured. Do not have sex until you are sure both you and your partner no longer have the disease.I suggest to use condom, limit the number of sex partners, pactice sexual abstinence. As in If your case avoid sexual contact and discharge or burning during urination or an unusual sore or rash should be a noticed. Notify all of your recent sex partners so that they can see a doctor and be treated. Sometimes patients get epididmytitis as is likely in your case. It takes about three months for symptoms to completely go so you have been taking right treatment so nothing to worry. If any discharge comes you must clean it with water. Maintain good hygiene.

Take care.

I don't think I have epididmytitis there is no pain what so ever just a little bit of clear sticky liquid. My question is, is it normal to have liquid lining the walls of your urethata? The other question is how long can Chlamydia symptoms stay around after treatment and the last question is should I be tested for Trichomoniasis?

Brief Answer:
7-10 days to resolve after treatment.

Detailed Answer:
If you did not had pain so it is unlikely that you had epididmytis. If there is a small amount of liquid it is not a problem but unless you have clear discharge. Still if your problem persists then you can collect the liquid on swab and send it for microscopy examination and culture sensitivity test for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. The symptoms usually resolve within a week after treatment. The second course of treatment is highly effective. Your problem may be a coinfection with another organism that does not respond to your current therapy. Take a test of cure should be considered to exclude other causes of urethritis. Drink at least 2 litres of water daily. As for trichomoniasis infection it usually asymptomatic but yes symptoms vary. So you can get swab tested for this parasitic infection if positive you would require to take metronidazole.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
More dry than wet.

Detailed Answer:
In most of the males, urethra is dry more often than it is wet. After urination his urethra will have some stray drops in it for a few minutes and then be dry. In cases of ejaculation the urethra may have some unejaculated semen in it for a half hour or so but sometimes may take longer time to dry. In cases of sexual arousal, bulbourethral fluid from Cowper's gland may secrete fluids which will flow down his urethra.
Take care.
