Question: I suffered from anxiety for a long time as i thought i caught hiv but after repeated tests it came negative , my anxiety symptoms went away for some days and came back like feeling of unwellness ,hot flashes ,weakness, headache throughout the day didn't ease .Whenever i have anxiety or stress may be due to study next day and so on i feel these symptoms.I feel like fever but my temperature remains near 98.6 and rarely go beyond it .I want to know whether these hot flashes, headaches can be treated and if really anxiety or stress shows these kind of symptoms or not?I continuously check my temperature as i feel hot inside. Headache combined with lightheadedness comes and then for some days hot flashes it's like a cycle .Now I don't have much anxiety but mild stress due to study ,with some brief incidence of improper and inadequate sleep for 3 days headache started now especially in my rear part of head and it pains mildly and persistently with some lightheadedness sometimes .What can i do?

Brief Answer:
relaxation exercises.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your details and understand your concerns.

You have symptoms like hot flashes, lightheadedness and headaches.
You have had health concerns about getting HIV in past.
You have anxiety and stress and inadequate sleep.

Considering these details, I feel anxiety and stress are the predominant reasons for your symptoms.
Anxiety can cause any number of symptoms like headache, hot flashes, irritability, tremors, palpitations, dizziness etc.

I would suggest you to practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing.
Practice sleep hygiene habits:
Do not take fatty meals, tea, coffee in evening.
Follow a fixed routine of sleep.
Take warm water bath and drink warm milk in night.
Avoid daytime naps.

If symptoms persist, drugs like duloxetine (prescription drug) can help.

Kindly discuss these issues with your psychiatrist.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Thanks.

Thanks doctor, i also think my problems are due to anxiety as i have faced these problems earlier when i was very anxious but now i am not anxious only i am facing physical symptoms which make me anxious. Also i read somewhere that these symptoms can be caused by hypothyroidism and my mother suffers from this so is suspect it can be the cause. Is hypothyroidism at my age (23) male possible ?If yes are there other symptoms also ?Now a days i am not feeling much hot flashes but only mild headache and dizziness throughout the day which starts after 1 hour from waking up ? I dizziness associated with hypothyroidism or not? What are the odds?

Brief Answer:
get evaluated for hypothyroidism.

Detailed Answer:
You are most welcome.

Yes, hypothyroidism can cause anxiety and depression. It runs in families too.
But it is unusual in young males. It is more common in females.

Other symptoms of hypothyroidism are dry skin, weight gain, decreased appetite, intolerance to cold etc.

Since your mother has this thyroid problem, you can also go for thyroid check-up.

Headache and Dizzines can be due to inadequate sleep.
Dizziness, per se, is not the symptom of hypothyroidism.

If diagnosed, the treatment of hypothyroidism will cure anxiety as well.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Thanks.

Sir,i don't feel any other symptom which you described of hypothyroidism and i am not much anxious now ,recently i got a pimple like structure in the back of my ear where it joins head ,it is not i feel pimple as it has no mouth and is skin covered and small but painful when touched.I found that whenever i touch or press it my dizziness weakens and it gives me relief.Initially i was not relating it to anything but now i feel it can be the cause of dizziness .What can be this ?Is it ear infection? What is the treatment? Can it cause dizziness?

Brief Answer:
local examination needed to determine the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Pimple like swelling in that area could be a localized collection of fat, a swollen lymph node, an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection).

The lymph nodes can swell due to dandruff, internal ear infection or caries in tooth.

It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage, without examining the lump.

Topical antibiotics like mupirocin might help.

I do not think it can cause dizziness.

Kindly get it examined by your nearest doctor.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
Thanks.
