Seborrheic dermatitis; coal tar based shampoo and topical steroid lotion

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern

You seem to have seborrheic dermatitis (SD) of scalp. SD is characterised by itching and redness/erythema of scalp. Most people also notice increased hair shedding.
I suggest you to use a ketoconazole and coal tar based shampoo e.g protar -K shampoo , every alternate days.
In addition you may use a topical steroid lotion on scalp skin once daily at night e.g topisal-3% solution/lotion.
You may take a tablet of cetrizine 10 mg for itching.
With these measures you should notice improvement in your SD in about 2weeks.

Brief Answer:
No specific tests are recommended apart from thyroid and serum ferritin

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

There is no direct link however deficiencies, metabolic and immune imbalances, chronic infections and bad habits like smoking affect skin and hair just like any other system in the body.
