Suggest Remedy For Pain During Urination And Back Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 25 May 2015
Question: Hello,

I recently gave birth two months ago. 4-5 days ago I experienced burning pain during urination. That stopped two days ago and this morning I woke up with body aches, off and on mild nausea, fatigue and later today I experienced chills, back pain, and a fever of 102.3 that I took two hours ago.

I plan to see a doctor tomorrow morning but I am worried that I may need to go the ER for more immediate attention. Will I be fine waiting or should I go now?

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Can wait until tomorrow.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
The clinical symptoms all put together point towards a diagnosis of UTI ( urinary tract infection ).
Generally the earlier this is treated, the better.
You would need the following workup -
1. An internal exam to rule out concurrent vaginal infection.
2. Urine routine microscopy to confirm the infection and urine culture to know the type of organism causing it and the antibiotic that would work best against it.
But this not a medical emergency.
You can take Paracetamol for the fever, and take some rest.
Drink lots of water and cranberry juice.
Of course, till antibiotics are started, you will not address the UTI, but you cannot start antibiotics on your own without a test and culture.
You can go to the ER and give the urine sample, so that you have the results early, but if you are reluctant to do that, for any reason, you can definitely wait until tomorrow morning to meet your doctor.
All the best
