Suggest Remedy For Fatigue While On Effexor

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Dec 2015
Question: I take 225 ml of Effexor at bedtime along with one-half Zoplicone. When I get up in the morning I am all right for about an hour and then fatigue really sets in and I have to lie down, and I am really tired the rest of the day. By the way, I also have to go to bed by 8:00 o'clock at night as I can't function at all. My doctor is sending me for a stress test on Friday. I really need help, I have been tired for over a year now and I can't take it any longer.
Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms. Gray, and thank you for your question. I remember your details from previous questions I have answered for you, and have reviewed your previous questions. Let me give you my thoughts.

You have now been at a higher dose of Cymbalta for about 4 weeks. It can take antidepressants up to 6 weeks to achieve their maximum effect, which for you is relieving the fatigue that is a symptom of depression. The most effective thing you can do is to wait another 1-2 weeks to see if Cymbalta will give you additional benefit.

If at the end of 1-2 weeks your fatigue is not improved, there are a couple of options. One, you can switch Cymbalta to Pristiq. Pristiq is an SNRI antidepressant that is a metabolite of Effexor, which you have also been taking. Sometimes people metabolize Effexor and Cymbalta poorly, and Pristiq can be a solution for these people. Also, you should consider adding a stimulant. Did you ask your doctor about Adderall?
