Question: Hello Doctor,
This query is on behalf of my wife. She got Thyroid problem during pregnancy but she had taken medicines called Thyronom and it maintained the level till delivery. But, she stopped taking the medicines after delivery. Now she realized the body fat is increasing and she did the TSH test again after 8 months of delivery. The TSH value is 8.5 and she is taking Thyronom 50 from past one month but the body fat is not decreasing. please suggest the correct value of medicine to decrease the TSH level. Regards, XXXX

Hello Mr. XXXX thanks for trusting health care magic.
Dose of 50 ug is appropriate for her at TSH of 8.5.
She will shed her weight slowly only and its good for her health to keep it at a slow pace.
Slow shedding is because of her hypothyroid status and her past partum rest which is desirable for the health of both mother and baby.
Next step in management will be to repeat the thyroid hormone levels after 6 weeks of resumption of thyroxine intake.
If it comes to normal then keep taking same dose and start some exercise or yoga but not to be rigorous in doing the same.
