Is Negative OraQuick HIV Test Report After 9 Months Of Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Nov 2015
Question: I had unprotected sex with a male anal last November no condom I saw his test results twice which were negative. I also took 2 oraquick tests several months apart at the 9 month mark. Both tests were negative. Recently I got a new girl friend an we had sex about 7 weeks ago and she has developed a rash on her middle to lower back she has never had a rash like this before now I'm worried I gave her HIV. My doctor lectured me telling me because of my 2 negative tests I don't have HIV yet he never tested me could he be wrong ? Are their other symptoms that she should be having if she has the HIV rash? Thank you

Brief Answer:
You can go for repeat testing for your mental satisfaction.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome to HCM.

You had unprotected anal sex with a male whose test results are negative twice than you had done two oraquick test at 9 months and both of them are also negative so you need not to worry at all as you are absolutely free from HIV.

As rightly said by your doctor that no further test is required but if you have any doubt in your mind you can go for repeat testing just for your mental satisfaction and to be 100% sure about your status.

As far as rash on the back of your girlfriend is concerned it is due to some allergy or other reason but not related to HIV because symptoms of HIV are different like unexplained weight loss, chronic fever for more than one month and many more. So don't worry about the rash and give her tab Avil for this and tell her to consult local physician for further management. Be relaxed and move ahead.

Thank You

Brief Answer:
You can do rapid test at home for her to clear the doubt from your mind.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

If your girlfriend is having HIV rash than definitely other symptoms are also present along with which is not there in your case so no need to be so anxious as the chances of getting an infection are very less. Be relaxed and move ahead.

To rule our the possibility the best possible way is to get her tested at home by rapid test kit which you can perform easily and don't get worried about false positive result. Just calm your self and do it.

All she has is a rash and her stomach is bothering her do u think she has HIV since both my tests were negative ?
Hi thanks for the information I do have a question I took oraquick tests which both were negative. Wondering if I made an error with both tests what would be my odds of contracting HIV after having anal sex with another man only did this once in my life and sick over the decision to do it. I have an anxiety disorder yet I am having all kinds of symptoms such as a cough for 6 weeks canker sores seem to have joint pain and stiffness in my joints headaches can any of these issues be connected to HIV? Thank you for your help

Brief Answer:
The risk is very remote or nil if two oraquick test after 9 months negative

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

The possibility of getting HIV infection is very less or nil if two oraquick test results are negative after nine months. So no need to worry so much.

As far as your symptoms are concerned they are due to anxiety and excessive stress what you are taking that's why just be relaxed and move ahead.

Have been speaking to you but have not mentioned I have had a cough/sinus infection for more then 6 weeks with a lot of mucous wondering if this could be an immune issue tied to HIV my doctor says it is allergies yet I have never had them before and I can't get them to go away. Should I be concerned? Just can't get the HIV thing off my brain seems like everyday I have a new symptom can you help please ?

Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (8 hours later)
Brief Answer:
You can go for x-ray chest and some blood investigations to isolate cause.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Chronic cough and sinus infection for more than 6 weeks is suggestive of some infective etiology or it may be due to allergy also as your doctor said.

You can go for x-ray chest and some other blood investigations as per advice of your doctor to rule out the cause and take treatment accordingly.

So are you saying it is something completely separate of HIV or could it be tied into HIV ? Worried that it won't go away because of an immune issue. Getting to the point where things are tough everyday with this HIV thing very upset and depressed to have to wake up everyday and fight the thought I have a disease can you help in anyway since you are an expert on HIV thank you

I ask not because I am having symptoms but my girl friend who had the rash on her back which turned red overnight now has noticed today her belly button area is red!!please help I only had sex with her because my doctor was 100% sure I do not have HIV. Is there some way you can tell if she has HIV would she have other symptoms like a fever or something else bad to go with the rash that would tell you she does or does not have HIV with my anxiety I can't handle all of this I can tell you she has been complaining of always being tired could it be my doctor is wrong I a so scared I infected her with HIV what is the red or rash on her belly button? Thank you very much my anxiety is going crazy as she continues to wake up with symptoms
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Rash on belly or back is not the symptom suggestive of HIV infection.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

First of all, it is not possible that you had done ora quick test twice and it was wrong both the Times.

Second, red rash on belly or back is not associated with HIV because the symptoms of HIV are chronic fever since one month, unexplained rapid weight loss, chronic diarrhea etc which is not there in her so be relaxed and move ahead. You and your girl friend both are risk free absolutely.

Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (10 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Yeast or fungal infection can also occur in normal person without HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

You had rightly said that red belly button occurs due to yeast or fungal infection but this infection is not always associated with HIV. It can also occur in normal person.

Same here with running nose and tiredness it may be due to some viral infection. The best solution is to get tested and that will remove all your doubts.

If it is not possible for you to get tested then don't get tensed and stressed. As I had told you repeatedly that the risk is very remote in your case.
