Question: Just had blood work done and my Mpv is 11.4, and normal range is 7.4-10.4 I am worried, is their anything I can do to bring it down? I read this increases my risk for stroke or heart attack.

Brief Answer:
NO risk of stroke or heart attack.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

MPV is measurement of average size of platelets in blood.

Normal range of MPV is 7.5-10.5 fL (femtolitre) or clinically the upper limit is up to 11.0 depending upon the lab variations.

Your MPV reading is 11.4 which is slightly increased.MPV increases when there is destruction of platelets.

It is seen in many inflammatory conditions like inflammatory bowel disease, some arterial diseases when MPV is significantly elevated which is NOT in your case.

So here,it might also be related to your shingles before few months,so I don't think it is a matter of concern.

It is NOT indicative of stroke or heat attack in your case.

Also,if you don't have any symptoms then you don't need anything. You may repeat test after two months.

Hope I have answered your query.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the immediate reply.

Heart palpitations could be due to a variety of conditions like anxiety or stress or may be anemia or gastric reflux.

However,in healthy individuals, it is most likely due to o anxiety or stress but if you already are done with EKG with sinus tachycardia then there is NO need to worry about heart related issues

Your heart seem to be alright.
