Is Insulin Advisable For A Patient After A CT Scan?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: I was given a CT Scan today where they injected XXXXXXX into my veins. I was told not to take my Metformin and Glipzide for 48 hours. I also take insulin but was not told I couldn't take it. Is insulin ok to take? What about my medications for high blood pressure and cholesterol? Is it ok to take those?

I haven't been able to sleep all night. I have insomnia and get panic attacks. Is this normal for an 83 year-old diabetic?

Never mind . Cancel the order and my subscription. It's taking too long. I'll ask my doctor when they open at 8:00 AM.

Brief Answer:
Diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Sorry to note your symptoms.

If your glucoses are running low below normal then it is possible for this to be the cause of your disrupted sleep. The only way to know if this is occuring or not, would be to check your glucose levels with a fingerstick blood sample and a glucose monitor.

The metformin can be restarted once a blood test for Serum Creatinine shows a reasonably acceptable level. For the exact cut-off in your individual case, please ask your doctor.

Regarding insulin, the answer depends on which kind of insulin. I tell my patients on Lantus or Levemir to take their usual dose. However, individual guidance for you depends on several factors which are known to your prescribing doctor only.

Typically, I let me my patients take their blood pressure and cholesterol medications before a CT scan with XXXXXXX
