Hello. I Have Received My Latest Blood Test Which Also

default
Posted on Sat, 4 May 2019
Question: Hello. I have received my latest blood test which also looked for MMR immunity. For some reason it indicated that “no antibodies were detected” despite the mumps vaccine which I received in 1968! Is this something to be concerned about, especially when the zoster and rubella antibodies were totally fine?
How could I have lost my immunity only to mumps?
Second, I noticed that over the years my triglycerides are always in the normal range, but my LDL, non-LDL cholesterol and glucose have fluctuated. My results show they are exactly the same as they were 8 years ago. I realize that I must now make a more serious effort at weight loss and totally eliminating high glycemic foods. Would it be normal for glucose to have fluctuated over the years between 110 and 135 (as it is now), and LDL between 110 and 140, and the Non-LDL cholesterol between 140 and 160 (with a perfectly normal VLDL)? Last year my A1C was down to 5.7% and now it’s back up to 6.2%.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
This has been reported

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but unfortunately, it has been reported that anti-mumps antibodies declined progressively after 20 years post-vaccination which makes you at risk of infection...

It is alarming that the HbA1c level is increasing which means that you need to decrease carbohydrates content of your diet and replace by fruits , vegetables , protein and dairy.

It is also important that your exercise daily for 15 minutes even by walking... This will also help improve the levels of LDL lipoproteins.

I hope you find this helpful
Let me know if I can assist you further...

Thank you for your reply. Regarding mumps, is it recommended that a person be revaccinated every 20 years? If the immunity disappeared some 30 years ago and I never got infected, is revaccination necessary? Regarding the glucose numbers, what is the significance that labs have changed their normal ranges from >139 to >100?? Same for LDL ranges being changed? Does any of this have to do with a falling Total T3 number?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, hello again.. it is recommended to take lumps vaccine every 20 years until the age of 60. After the age of 60 the vaccination is not recommended as the risk of infection is minimal.. The blood glucose reference range is 100 for fasting analysis and 140 for random analysis. low T3 level leads to increased insulin resistance and increased blood glucose levels.. I hope you find this helpful

Dr. Shoman, this is very interesting. I have never shown to have decreased Total T3 before, but my glucose has been a little high. Do you mean that one leads to the other, or that really it is lower Total T3 that causes glucose to rise?
How do I raise back the Total T3 beyond the number 73?
Plus, my previous tests have lab show >139 for glucose without specifying fasting or not, and this year it shows >99 without specifying fasting or not. This is somewhat confusing.

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir , hello again.. low levels of T3 leads to resistance to the effect of intrinsic insulin and rise of glucose levels in susceptible patients.. As regards reference range of glucose levels the fasting levels should be less than 99 while the postprandial should less than 139.. I hope you find this helpful

Us there something I should do to raise now the Total T3 which would also improve my glucose if they are connected? Even though I've never seen a lower Total T3 before with elevated glucose? My other thyroid numbers are normal.

Hi, Dr. Shoman. I just uploaded it. As I mentioned, my fasting glucose this year is 133. It has fluctuated, but is exactly as it had been in 2011 (I do blood tests every year).

Brief Answer:
central hypothyroidism (hypopituitarism)

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir, Hello again...

I've reviewed them...Your T3 level is below normal while the T4 level is in the lower normal values, while TSH leve remains low.. This excludes thyroid gland dysfunction and suggests pituitary gland dysfunction..

So, I would recommend that you get a blood test for FSH and testesterone levels and send back the results to confirm the diagnosis

I hope you find this helpful
