Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome to XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
It is not done by laser. There are some experimental methods using laser but this is not routine today and there is no proven benefit of laser when comparing to standard procedures. Laser can be used endoscopicaly to treat gastritis and ulcers but this will not repair hernia.
Although, today,in most institutions it can be done laparoscopicaly which is much less invasive procedure than open surgery. it is done through 3-4 holes in abdominal wall using camera and special instruments.
It is called nissen fundoplication and is not very complex procedure. it is usually done 45-60 minutes and postoperative recovery lasts for 3-5 days.
There is no clear indication for surgery so it is recommended to do it when symptoms(heartburn, breathing difficulties, bloating, weight loss) become unbearable. So this is up to you will you and when are you gonna do it.
I would advise not to hurry at this point and try to control symptoms by medicines first. Surgery is always an option if conservative therapy isnt helpful.
Wish you good health. Feel free to ask. Regards

One further question. Does the patient go home the same day? You mentioned
three to five days to recover, this is recovering at home? I like to exercise and
it seems i won't be able to exercise at all. What about swimming after three days. Your previous answer was excellent
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Hi.

Detailed Answer:
No, no. definitely not the same day. This is not so simple. even small abdominal hernias must have hospital stay for 1-2 days.
After hiatal hernia you must be in hospital at least 2 days and usually this is 3-5 days.
Procedure is done on stomach and diaphragmal muscle so rest and proper diet is very important. Exercise should not be on your mind at least 4 weeks and full recovery lasts for 6-8 weeks. You ll definitely wont be allowed to swim after 3 days, even after 3 weeks. So,recovery last bit longer than you thought, but as I said the decision about surgery is up to you. If this is the only way to improve your condition than few weeks of rest wont be so hard for you, right?
