Does Cold Weather Affect People Suffering From Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

default
Posted on Sat, 15 Mar 2014
Question: Endocarditis surgery in Chicago. Chronic fatigue syndrome since 1995. 90 days after surgery as allowed by northwestern hospital I had my teeth cleaned, one molar pulled out and six upper veneers replaced. Ever since November 20 or so, the Cfs has flared up significantly and I feel like I have a bad case of the flu every day, all day. Further my mouth is sore/sensitive all day , sometimes concentrated on where the tooth was removed and other times radiating thru my entire mouth. Some say that Cfs and the chronic cold weather (Chicago) is making this intolerable and with warmer weather things will be better- also the stress around my job makes the Cfs much worse or so they say. I am doing light exercise two times a week w a personal trainer. But I feel absolutely lousy. Thoughts?? XXXX

Brief Answer: gargle, vitamin supplements, glycerine, exercise. Detailed Answer: Hi XXXX, thanks for using HCM. I went through the query and understood your concern. . Since you are suffering from CFS the cold weather will definitely affects your health. For the pain and soreness in mouth that has developed after the tooth extraction, you need to do regular gargle with the povidine iodine and apply glycerine gel over mouth ulcer if present. Along with these take regular Vitamin B complex supplements. These will help you in prevention of the symptoms. If any infection (pain, fever, swelling eill be associated) you require antibiotic therapy otherwise the above measures will help you. Drink only warm water and fresh warm food. For CFS kindly tell me the drugs with dosage you are taking now so that we can discuss about the management in detail. Continue exercises and you can increase the frequency for once in 2 days. When ever possible better to be in warm weather/home as the cold weather will affect you. I hope this information helps you and I will be waiting for your reply. Wish you good health and faster recovery. Regards

Brief Answer: diet, exercise, relaxation techniques Detailed Answer: Hi thank you for the reply. Since you are not taking any drugs, regular exercises and nutritious diet with plent of water will help you. Also practice relaxation techniques when ever free and listen to light inspiring music. If you still feel more fatigue you can contact your doctor for examination once and further management. He may check for your heart (echocardiography) and other blood test and manage them according to the result. Take rest while working. 5 - 10 min rest for every one hour and have fluids while working and also sleep for 6-8 hours a day (at a stretch). These will help you. Feel free to ask if any related query and I wil be happy to answer them. Wish you faster recovery and good health. Regards

I take one AMBIEN pill before bedtime each night. I notice that after I take it, the CFS symptoms and the soreness in my mouth decrease DRAMATICALLY. Is it possible for me to take a second AMBIEN during the day? Or some other similar medication? THANK YOU

Brief Answer: Can't take in day time.Vitamin supplements Detailed Answer: Hi XXXX, thanks for the query. Ambien pill is for inducing sleep so that there will be good sound sleep. As mentioned earlier good sleep is a part of your management and hence you are feeling great after this drug. You can't take another tab in morning as this can cause drowsiness or sleep in day time and affect your activities. You can have multivitamin supplements with pregabalin which may help for fatigue and also pain of neuronal origin. This drug can be taken in day time and may help you. Hope I answered your query. I will be happy to help you if any further health queries. Wish you good health. Regards
