Is Sinus Infection Related To Serotonin Syndrome?

I take 10 mg of paxil every other day (weaning down) and was diagnosed with a severe sinus infection today. The doc told me to get some robitussin cf for the cough. Now I have read about the serotonin syndrome and I am freaked out. Should I worry? I took my paxil at 2:30 pm today and 2 tsp of robitussin at 8:30 pm.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

Kindly do not get concerned with the thoughts of Serotonin Syndrome.
There is no relation between Serotonin Syndrome & Sinusitis.
Sinusitis is caused by infection/ inflammation of paranasal sinus.
Investigations like complete blood count & X-ray of paranasal sinus will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Management includes:
1. Steam inhalation.
2. Analgesics like paracetamol
3. Nasal decongestant drops.
3. Antibiotics depending upon culture & sensitivity reports to remove the causative organism.
4. Antihistamine preparations can also be used to provide symptomatic relief.

Your symptoms will be relieved with this.
Wish you good health & a speedy recovery.
Take care.
